Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation: Quantify the Cost of Impacts and Adaptation

The aim of this project is to advance knowledge of the costs of climate change in the UK, by generating initial estimates of the welfare effects associated with specific impacts occurring under a range of climate change and socioeconomic scenarios for the UK. To the extent possible, it also indicates how and where the burden of these welfare affects may fall. In order to generate robust results, that will facilicate adaptation assessment, a primarily bottom-up approach based on local, regional and national case studies in a range of key impact sectors is adopted.

A Dynamic General Equilibrium Analysis of Adaptation to Climate Change in Ethiopia.

This study links a multisectoral, regionalized, dynamic, computable general equilibrium (CGE) model of Ethiopia with a system country-specific hydrology, crop, road, and hydropower engineering models to simulate the economic impacts of climate change scenarios from global circulation models (GCMs) to 2050. In the absence of externally funded, policy-driven adaptation investments, Ethiopia’s GDP in 2050 will be up to 10% below the counterfactual no climate change (historical climate) baseline.

Measuring climatic impacts on energy consumption: A review of the empirical literature

This paper reviews the literature on the relationship between climate and the energy sector. In particular,we primarily discuss empirical papers published in peer-reviewed economics journals focusing on how climate affects energy expenditures and consumption. Climate will affect energy consumption by changing how consumers respond to short run weather shocks (the intensive margin) as well as how people will adapt in the long run (the extensivemargin).

This study has the overall objective to make proposals for action for the implementation of the National Adaptation Strategy of the German federal government addressing finance and incentive structures. On that account, the current state of research on the economics of climate change and the adaptation to it is assessed, an overview on specific policy measures is given, and possible evaluation criteria of these instruments are created. By means of a illustrative multi-criterion analysis, specific instruments are evaluated.

Adaptation measures in the EU : policies, costs, and economic assessment : climate proofing of key EU policies

The aim of this report was to identify the most appropriate measures on the EU level to address different threats. A final selection of measures to be assessed with a view to their costs and economic, social and environmental impacts was agreed at the first interim meeting with the Commission. Measures already part of EU wide assessment projects were no part of the assessment.

Assessing the costs of climate change and adaptation in South Asia.

This book discusses the economic costs and benefits of unilateral and regional actions on climate change adaptation in ADB’s six South Asia DMCs, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It provides an estimate of the total economic loss throughout the 21st century to the South Asia DMCs. The study takes into account the different scenarios and impacts projected across vulnerable sectors and estimates the magnitude of funding required for adaptation measures to avert such potential losses.

Valuing Climate Change Uncertainty Reductions for Robust Energy Portfolios.

Climate policy uncertainty has decisive influence on energy sector strategies. Potential stranded climate-energy investments may be enormous. Remote sensing can improve our understanding of the climate system and thus better inform climate policy and reduce associated uncertainties. We develop an integrated energy-portfolio model to value these uncertainties. The operations of individual power plants are optimized using real options given scenarios of stochastically evolving CO2 prices mimicking observation-induced climate policy uncertainty.

A Practical Framework for Planning Pro-Development Climate Policy

MCA4climate is a major new UNEP initiative providing practical assistance to governments in preparing their climate change mitigation and adaptation plans and strategies. It aims to help governments, particularly in developing countries, identify policies and measures that are low cost, environmentally effective and consistent with national development goals. It does this by providing a structured approach to assessing and prioritizing climate-policy options, while taking into consideration associated social, economic, environmental and institutional costs and benefits.

Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change

This report provides examples of the range of options currently available for adapting to climate variability and extremes in key climate-sensitive sectors, such as agriculture, energy, and transportation. Although these examples alone may not be sufficient for coping with future climate change, they offer a starting point for devising adaptation strategies. While the report provides a long list of options to be considered for various sectors.

The Costs of Adapting to Climate Change for Infrastructure

An approach to estimating the costs of adapting to climate change is presented along with results for major components of infrastructure. The analysis separates the price/cost and quantity effects of climate change.
