This report describes anti- icing and road weather information systems (RWIS) research, implementation efforts by highway agencies, and summarizes the current practice of anti-icing technology. The benefits and costs of anti-icing and RWIS, as reported in the literature and supplemented with information provided in interviews of highway professionals are outlined.
