Previous global studies have identified the energy sector as one of the most important for future climate change impact analysis in Western Europe (e.g. Eyre et al, 1998). The changing climate in the UK will shift energy demand patterns for heating and cooling, as well as changing the resource availability of many renewable technologies (e.g. hydro, wind, even biomass). The analysis here has used existing UK energy scenario work, combined with existing climate scenarios, to investigate the potential importance of the priority effects above.
